Services for the deaf and hard of hearing
NYC Health + Hospitals offers free services to meet the unique communication needs of patients and families who may be deaf or hard of hearing. Services include sign language interpretation services, closed captioning on televisions, TTY equipment and other assistive listening devices.
In addition, deaf and hard of hearing patients at NYC Health+ hospitals have free access to the following additional services:
- Sign language interpreters: Qualified sign language interpreters are available in person through the Patient Relations Department at all times for patients, family and caregivers.
- Video Remote Interpretation (VRI): Sign language interpreters are also available through video services, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Communications Access Real Time Translation (CART): Available for deaf or hard of hearing patients or families.
