What grants am I entitled to?

The HSP helps older Australians reduce the overall cost of hearing aids through a few different types of grants.

You may qualify for the voucher component of the program if you meet certain criteria. These include:

  • Hold a veterans card
  • Be a member of the Australian Defense Force
  • Be referred by the Employment Services for People with Disabilities program
  • Be dependent on a holder of a veterans card or a discount card for retirees.

Community service obligations

You may be eligible for a hearing aid through the Community Service Obligations (CSO) stream.

You will need to be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

You will also need to belong to one of the voucher eligibility criteria groups and have complex hearing or communication needs, or live in a remote area.

There are additional criteria for Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders, as well as those under 26.

Subsidized devices

The list of hearing aids that can be subsidized under the PSS includes:

  • High power behind-the-ear (BTE) devices
  • BTE devices
  • Open ear devices
  • In-ear devices (ITE)
  • Intracanal devices (ITC).

You can check your grant eligibility here.

Once you’ve done that, it’s time to make an appointment with hearing care professional.
